Rush is a thinking man’s band. Sure, they have some songs that are ridiculous and humorous in nature, such as “I Think I’m Going Bald” and “Trees” (which trees, off this album, is fantastic and about trees and how they somehow relate to oppression). In fact, they have so many songs that connect the dots between the words interesting, cool, and funny that it’s almost impossible to deny that Rush is intentionally trying to portray themselves as intellectuals bordering on obsessive comedians and expert hobbyists on their instruments.Continue reading
I know this question has been answered a million times, and I likely have no new, inherent information to pull people to my reasons on why people collect vinyl records, but I nonetheless will write on this topic.
Nowadays, with the plethora of formats that we can listen to music on, it might often take most people by surprise that a small portion of the population in the world still collects vinyl records. Although I enjoy collecting vinyl records, I ought to confess… I do not have a large collection.
I started collecting vinyl during the summer of 2017, and since then I have amassed a total of 15 or 16 records. The genres I have are rock and classical music, and while I will continue to collect them and learn how to clean them and have them musically tell me interesting stories, transport me to new landscapes and give me hope in the dark depths of a musically addled mind, I do not have a large collection.
That said, I do have 50 CDs, I listen to music on the daily and I also play guitar and the Native American flute (a peculiarity, if you will). Such is the way of a broke musician :). And I write poetry/lyrics. Lots of it.Continue reading
